This amazing tree produces so many fruits, they look from a distance like thick, dark blue ropes covering the branches. These small Damson-type plums have a sweet/tart, dense flesh and the freestone fruits make great preserves. The astringency common to Damson-style fruits is easily moderated by freezing and thawing the raw fruit before using, or by blending with other fruits or varieties of plums.Â
